Between January 1 and November 15 we brought in 54 cats and 205 dogs. Many of these came from high kill shelters in the North Georgia area. Ten cats and thirty dogs needed more than one chance at a forever home. We adopted out 64 cats and 231 dogs, and the year isn't over yet. Twenty of the dogs we rescued were heartworm positive and we are covering all costs of treatment for each one, with each full treatment protocol costing close to $1,000.00.
Our kennel underwent major renovations in the cat room, the small dog iso room, and the office. An anonymous donor generously gave us a full kennel generator, which already has been a lifesaver when the power has gone out. We also purchased a new furnace to ensure year-round optimum heating and cooling for our cats and dogs.
We have assisted with nearly 200 sterilization procedures for dogs and cats and provided heartworm testing and preventative shots to 30 dogs.
We have been supporting the Gilmer County Food Pantry with wet and dry pet food to be given as needed to local residents so they can keep their pets in these trying financial times.
The most challenging aspect of building and maintaining any no-kill shelter is the expense. YOU can play an important role in Homeward Bound's rescue work by donating as an individual or through your business, your organization, your church. All donations are tax deductible and 100% of the proceeds are spent on the animals in our care.
Truthfully, the bread and butter of our organization are the $5, $10, and $20 donations. Each and every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference!
Without the generous donations from ALL our supporters and animal loving members, we would not be able to save the many homeless dogs and cats in North Georgia. It goes without saying, with more donations we can save even more lives. We can help to reduce the overpopulation of unwanted animals through more extensive spay/neuter programs. From time to time, we love to spotlight a particular donation. Recently, one of our members presented the Homeward Bound shelter with a Generac generator for backup power. This means there won't ever be an interruption of power during inclement weather. The volunteers won't have to worry if the lights go out and will be able to care for each animal in the air conditioned kennel. The gift was made in the memory of Sam and Corona, former rescues who have now crossed over the rainbow bridge. Donors Jim and Wendy said, "the donation is not specifically about Sam and Corona, but is made in their honor and to commemorate how our lives changed after bringing them into our home."
